Dr. Foust is an experimental psychologist who specializes in social psychology and health psychology. He earned his BS from Baldwin Wallace University and went on to earn his MA and PhD from Kent State University. While at Kent State, Dr. Foust was awarded the David B. Smith scholarship for outstanding research and teaching, and was the first graduate student to be recognized by the Kent State Center for Teaching and Learning as the featured educator of the month.

Dr. Foust’s primary research is on information avoidance, which is when a person chooses not to learn self-relevant information. He was an invited guest on the podcast Under the Cortex where he discussed information avoidance in the modern age. He is also interested in how people interpret their disease risk information, coping strategies that facilitate information seeking and accurate comprehension of disease risk, and social norms that influence one’s understanding or willingness to engage with their risk information. With training in both social psychology and health psychology, Dr. Foust’s research applies social psychology to health and health contexts.

Dr. Foust is excited to begin his first year at Converse University in Fall 2024, and is looking forward to teaching General Psychology, Health Psychology, and Stats & Experimental Design I. He is also looking forward to developing a course on information engagement in the modern age.

Outside of the classroom, Dr. Foust enjoys spending time with his partner and their dog watching TV and cooking delicious food. He is also obsessed with soccer and will happily talk about it with anyone who will listen.
