Jeffrey Howard

Jeffrey Howard is an assistant professor of English and the Director of the Writing Center at Converse University. He received a PhD in English and the Teaching of English, as well as a graduate certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), from Idaho State University in 2017. He also graduated summa cum laude with a BA in English (Professional Writing emphasis) from BYU–Idaho in 2010 and an MA in English (Literature and Writing) from Utah State University in 2013. He teaches writing and multimodal composition courses at Converse.

Prior to joining the Converse community, Jeffrey was a Marion L. Brittain Postdoctoral Fellow at the Georgia Institute of Technology from 2018–22, where he taught courses in multimodal composition, undergraduate thesis writing, and technical communication. He also served for three years as an assistant director and interim co-director of the Naugle Communication Center.

Scholarly & Research Activity

His current research focuses on literacy narratives and critical self-reflection, the professionalization of writing center consultants, and the preservation of writing center history through digital humanities initiatives. His articles on writing studies and writing centers have appeared in WLN, Southern Discourse in the Center, The Peer Review, and Teaching English in the Two-Year College.
